East Texas Gulf Coast
Regional Trauma Advisory Council (RAC-R)

Regional Advisory Council

Background

The Texas Department of Health on May 6, 1993 officially recognized the Regional Advisory Council for Trauma Service - R.

The official name of the RAC is East Texas Gulf Coast Regional Trauma Advisory Council.

The Philosophy and Mission of the RAC is to facilitate the development, implementation and operation of a comprehensive regional trauma care system based on accepted standards of care to decrease morbidity and morality from traumatic injuries.

The RAC will solicit participation from all health care facilities providers, organizations and entities related to the provision of comprehensive trauma care.

The RAC will encourage active participation from community leaders, governmental representatives and elected officials in promoting and establishing an efficient and effective system of regional trauma care for all that may require such services.

Geographic Authority

Trauma Service Areas (TSA) are established for descriptive and planning purposes and not for the purpose of restricting patient referral.  The composition of TSA-R includes the ten counties of:

  • Brazoria
  • Chambers
  • Galveston
  • Hardin
  • Jasper
  • Jefferson
  • Liberty
  • Newton
  • Orange
The composition RAC-R may be changed by realignment.  All hospitals and EMS providers in the county must agree to the change.  They may petition the RAC-R, in writing, to accept the county.  The county judge may also petition the RAC-R, in writing.  The RAC will then vote on the issue and notify TDH for approval.
